Hongkong,

4th January, 1904.

With reference to your Despatch No. 411 of the 14th November, I have the honour to inform you that the present Jewish Cemetery is held on a 999 years lease at the nominal rental of $1 per annum. The cemeteries for all other religious communities have also been granted on the same terms as to rental and without premium.

2. The land which it is now proposed to grant as an extension could no doubt be used for building or other purposes, but the nature of its surroundings, in the vicinity of a cemetery and a Chinese village, would make it undesirable for residential purposes. I do not regard the extension asked for as too large in the circumstances.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

[Signature illegible, likely "Matthew Nathan" as "Анија" is not a known colonial administrator]

Officer Administering the Government.
